My Winter 2022 Fashion Predictions: Platforms, Knits, and More!

Winter is one of my favorite seasons especially when it comes to fashion. I also believe that it is one of the most difficult to dress for. It requires lots of layers to stay warm. Many clothes that are specifically designed to wear during the winter aren’t always the most aesthetically pleasing or well-priced. So here is my prediction on what I believe has the potential to be the most popular and practical this season.

Uggs:

If you asked me about Uggs about a year ago, I would have told you that I hope they never come back. Now, however, Uggs are making one of the biggest comebacks that I have ever seen. I believe one of their trendiest products this winter is going to be the platform Uggs. They come in multiple variations and styles such as black or brown, strap or zipper, or even lace-up. I think this product will be very popular this winter among a variety of many aesthetics. Right now we see a lot of chunky neutral-toned boots in the fall fashion season. Uggs are a good alternative for the winter to keep your feet warm and to also follow the aesthetic we loved in the fall. This product has the most potential to be popular among the streetwear aesthetic and can be paired with baggy cargo pants and big jackets.

Puffer vests:

Puffer vests were a bit of a shocker to me as well. Until this year, I hadn’t put on a puffer vest since I was a child. The puffer vest has been especially prevalent this fall but I believe it’ll hold out its popularity going into the winter season. I have seen a lot of popular brands such as Zara and H&M carrying puffer vests in their new winter lines that are now being put out in stores. Puffer vests are a great staple piece to have in a capsule wardrobe as they can be layered with many different clothing items and can add a lot of dimension to the outfit.

Chunky Knits:

This sounds a bit vague I know, but I truly mean chunky knit everything! Whether this is an oversized sweater, a sweater dress, a scarf, you name it. If it’s a chunky knit, we are all over it! Starting from the end of the summer 22, when lightweight holy sweaters started making an appearance all over social media, we will likely see the same concept in the winter but in more of a thick and cozy style. Many thrift stores carry crochets and knits that could be repurposed and styled in a way that is unique to you! You don’t have to spend a lot of money in stores to stay warm and fashionable in the winter. As a result of the pandemic, many people took up new hobbies such as knitting, and created social media content to show off the new products they are making. I feel as if this had a huge impact on the knit trend and also inspired people to learn how to get creative and make these pieces on their own.

Blazers and Suits:

This winter, we are going to see masculine fashion receive a fairy godmother touch with oversized suits! Blazers add a very sophisticated (and might I add, badass) touch to any outfit. In particular, we may see oversized suits come in handy as you’re able to layer more items such as shirts and sweaters underneath them. Don’t forget, to shop sustainably! You can thrift so many amazing blazers and suits in the men’s sections of thrift stores while also saving money and helping the environment. The blazer trend has been enduring through all seasons for quite some time now as we start to see the boundary being broken between gender roles in fashion. I believe that suits and blazers have become a gender-neutral style that allows for sophisticated self-expression.

Chunky Boots:

The bigger the boots, the better! As I said with the platform Uggs, we are starting to see big shoes become a trend throughout all seasons. We saw platforms make a comeback in the form of sandals and sneakers over the course of summer and fall, and I truly hope to keep seeing them throughout the winter season as well! Chunky platform boots are a statement piece that can take an outfit from blah to awe. They can help you make it through the winter weather without freezing your feet. Not only is the platform super cute, but you can also take the height and power that you feel when wearing them into the winter season as well.

Trends are open for interpretation and you can always take your own approach in terms of styling. Trends can also be subjective to weather and location. These fashion statements may vary by state and if you live in warmer climates in the winter you can still style these pieces in ways that suit your style and your environment. Fashion is meant to be fun and expressive, trends don’t always have to be followed exactly and you should wear what feels most comfortable for you!
