My Predictions for the Best 2021 Fashion Trends!

I think that in past (and recent) fashion “trends”, it’s easy to tell that we tend to bring things back. In 2018 we started bringing back the 80s, in 2019 we started to bring back the 90s, in 2020 we brought back Y2K. So what’s next? Today I have put together a few ideas as to what I think 2021 will offer the world of fashion.

Since we tend to bring things back, and we have already hit the 2000s… We can either move back up to the 2010s (I really hope we don’t) or we can go way back into styles from the 50s, 60s, 70s.

  1. Long, Boxy Skirts and Dresses: This is a style that I feel was popular from around the mid-90s to 2010s… We have already seen things like this come back in the spring of 2020 when we started to see floral and patterned midi-skirts. I feel like something like this will start to become popular again in either the spring or fall months of this year. They give us a Kat Stratford feminist vibe (which I love) and I think many girls (or guys) will start to love as well!

2. GoGo Boots: As I had previously mentioned, we can either move forward or go way back… This is one we’re gonna have to pull back out from the 60s and 70s. GoGo style boots have already been coming back in similar styles this year which shoes such as the Demonia Shaker Boots. Shoes like these can really add dimension and a fun twist to a more elegant outfit and I really like the look!

3. Gap Sweatshirts: We all know that Emma Chamberlain can start any fashion trend she wants just with a tap of a finger, and we have already caught her posting up in a Gap sweatshirt recently. Not only that, but Gap sweatshirts were definitely a staple piece for a 2010 wardrobe. (7-year-old me definitely had a few lined up in her closet back then) So it would be no surprise to me to see these make a surprise comeback. So watch out for Depop girls trying to sell you their old sweatshirts as “vintage y2k trendy sweatshirt” for $50. (That was kind of a joke, kind of not… anyways I am sure you can find one at the thrift store for way less)

4. Flared (or ‘oversized’) Trousers: As you already know, flared or bell-bottom pants were super popular in the 60s-70s. A lot of those styles have been tweaked a bit, and are starting to come back in ways like straight leg and boot cut trousers. I personally really like this look. You can pair these with a blazer and a dainty top to give us a strong woman look, or you can even wear it with a casual crop top and your favorite pair of Jordans. It is a universal piece of clothing that can really be dressed up or dressed down which is why I think it is something that will begin to be trendy within the next year.

5. Platform Flip Flops: We have seen platform boots, sneakers, and strap up sandals make a re-appearance but what about the platform flip flops? Once again, I really think that 2021 is gonna be a big year for feminism and putting women in power which is a big event that can affect fashion as well. A feminist fashion icon that many of us know and love is Kat Stratford from the 1999 chick-flick ’10 Things I Hate About You’. In almost every scene you can see Kat wearing black platform sandals which I personally think are super cute and something that more people may catch onto this summer!

6. 2010 Inspired Swimsuits: I think the swimsuits trend could go one of two ways, it could carry on with the 2020 ‘Y2K’ trend, and give us really skimpy, girly, colorful string bikinis… Or go into 2010 inspired swimsuits such as triangle shaped tops and boy-short style bottoms. What do you think?

7. Baggy Overalls: Baggy denim overalls have had their fair share of ‘trending time’ throughout the decades. They have been styled in many different ways during different time periods which goes to show they are super versatile and trustworthy, so why not take the chance and bring them back now?

Clearly, I am not a professional, but looking back on how clothing items started to trend, I did what I could with that information to try to get an idea of what trends are gonna make a comeback in 2021. Which one are you looking forward to (or dreading) the most?
